Director Story
Sulagna is Content and Communications Lead for InHERIT, a legacy film and podcast-based project by Ashoka University and Helen Hamlyn Trust. She was a Young India Fellow, 2024 and is a development comms professional by day, and a culture, food, and gender scholar by night, working in audio-visual, digital media, and cinema. Previously with theatre-based Jana Sanskriti and other grassroots organisations, she has worked with theatre activists and run a community radio station in rural Bengal. As founder of Wine and Wasabi, she organised multiple themed pop- up dinners in Kolkata. With an MA in communication and journalism from Visva-Bharati, Santiniketan, a BSc (hons) in Media Science from The Heritage Academy, and training from Le Cordon Bleu, London in gastronomy and culinary arts, she has worked on multiple international research projects such as The Digital Everyday and The Room Where it Happens, on gender, social media, and gendered experiences. She teaches classes annually on food, gender, and communication, and writes about the intersections of food and culture, having presented papers at various conferences including at IEHCA, France.
